Journal
A spoken diary about my days and my child, compiled into daily entries and the metrics that grow from them.
I have a lot of conversation in my head and say very little of it out loud. Writing a diary never stuck. Talking for a few minutes at the end of the day does.
The diary has a second purpose. In the same evening session I record what I notice about my child, and over time those observations become daily metrics I can follow, so I can see patterns early and help where it matters.
An evening session
An evening session
I talk about the day
by voice in the console, in English or Portuguese
A voice model asks
a few questions aimed at the gaps that matter most, then it closes
What I said
kept as evidence, the source everything else is compiled from
Journal
a diary entry for the day, compiled against a lean, versioned schema
Its own domain, stricter boundaries
Observations
kept apart from my own diary, never mixed into the rest of AlanOS
Daily metrics
the same measures every day, so patterns across weeks and months become visible
The voice model and the compiler are both replaceable. A better model can rebuild every entry and every metric from what I said.
- 01
I talk first
A session opens with me talking about the day, in English or Portuguese, by voice in the console.
- 02
It asks only what matters
A real-time voice model asks a few questions aimed at the gaps that matter most, then closes. It does not ask for the sake of asking.
- 03
Any recent day, any time
I can log against today or any recent day, as often as I like, for example to add something I remembered later.
Observations about my child
- Recorded in the same session
- There is no separate app. When I talk about my child in the evening session, those observations are recognised and kept apart from my own diary.
- A domain of its own
- Observations about my child live in their own domain, with stricter boundaries than the rest of AlanOS, so they never mix into everything else.
- Daily metrics
- Each day's observations are compiled against a versioned schema into the same measures every day, so patterns across weeks and months become visible.
- To help, over time
- The point is to notice early what is going well and what is hard, and to support my child with something better than memory.
The principles
- What I say is evidence
- My own account of my day and how I felt is taken as true. Claims about the world can be checked later; my feelings are not up for debate.
- A lean, versioned schema
- Each day is compiled against a lean, versioned schema. When the schema changes, older days stay readable.
- Replaceable models
- The voice model and the compiler are both replaceable. Knowledge can be rebuilt from the evidence by a better model at any time.
The facts of the day already live in Daily, so the diary does not have to repeat them. Journal is for what only I can say: what mattered, and why.
Journal is where AlanOS gets personal: a few minutes each evening that, over time, help me understand my own days and support my child better. The rules are the same as everywhere else: the evidence is mine, the models are replaceable, and the boundaries are code.
